Non Smoking Hotel Rooms in Paris

We are staying at the Hotel Frontenac (8)in early October and after reading a review (from 2004) the complaint was the room smelled terrible because of the stale smoke from cigarettes and cigars. They were told there were no non smoking areas (or rooms) in the hotel. Is this standard practice for hotels in Paris? This hotel is rated a 4 star and we are paying around $300.00 a night. Still have time to cancel without penalty. Tks

On the whole the large hotels mostly chain ones that may offer non-smoking rooms. It is not a common thing yet in Paris and in Europe on the whole to offer non-smoking rooms in smaller hotels although nowadays I notice more of them doing so. However, a non-smoking room could mean that the housekeeping just airs out the room or sprays it with freshener.

Large chains offer non-smoking rooms. We had a non-smoking room at the Holiday Inn Republique, also at a Novatel in Paris. Most smaller hotels just can't do it. I would suggest H.I., Marriott, Hilton if you want a non-smoking room. Even they do not "guarantee" it, but it is noted on your reservation and you stand a fair chance of getting it.

I think it's standard for a lot of hotels to not guarantee you anything, but it's not that common any more to have a 4* hotel like that not offer any nonsmoking rooms. I think I've stayed in a lot of Paris hotels that have nonsmoking rooms, and they aren't large chain hotels, but smaller French ones. I think I've seen a lot others when deciding that had that, also. The French LIbertel chain (which has many hotels that are small) has lots of them with nonsmoking rooms, for example, you can check their website for those.

I know I've read of some hotels with non-smoking floors, and even a couple of non-smoking hotels... unfortunately, I'd have to do a search for them but you could try.
I haven't thought to look at the hotel finder on www.parisinfo.com - maybe it offers a 'non-smoking' criteria.

Sofitel Hotels, part of the Accor hotel group, has non-smoking floors.

Hotel Muguet is in the Rue Cler area. We just stayed there and the whole hotel is non-smoking. No exceptions.

It is a boutique hotel. It's exceptionally clean and very convenient. We loved it....especially the fact that we never had to think about smelly smoke.
