Not sure where Mavis got her information, but you don't pass on the left in the UK. The right lane is the passing lane. Unless you're stuck in a traffic jam, you should ONLY use that lane for passing, and not sit in it like we Americans do. You can sit in the middle lane, if you can find one, all you want. Just stay out of the right lane.
