No more strippenkaarten in Amsterdam
From 3 June the OV chipcard will be the only ticket accepted on buses trams and metro in Amsterdam. This is already the case in Rotterdam.
http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers...whichcard.aspx provides some information on the new cards. The best place to go for advice and to purchase your card is the GVB office opposite Centraal Station. |
so my old Strip Card from January 2010 is no longer valid? I cannot apply what remains on it to the OV chipcard?
anyways thanks a lot for the update on Amsterdam's Oyster-like Card |
Sorry Pal, no you can't transfer the difference.
You can still you the card in other areas which have not made the full switch yet, so far only Amsterdam and Rotterdam are going to be OV chipcard only. As more areas switch I'll keep posting here. |
Dank u very wel
In Amsterdam Centraal Station (trains) i noticed the OV Chipcard readers were being installed at every entrance to the tracks - so i assume the OV chipcard is also to be used on trains - the way it is being set up it seems everyone has to go thru the OV chipcard gates - i often have a railpass so hope there is some way to skip around the OV gates? |
Your Dutch railpass is also an OV chipcard nowadays.
You have to activate it either online or at a machine or the information desk, and load it up with some money 9at least €20). I have no idea what they do about international ones. It will be a long time before the gates are closed and one can only travel on an OV chipcard though as far as trains are concerned. |
This isn't in Europe but I'll add the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River between NJ and NYC, with the Little Red Lighthouse below.

SuQue - wrong thread so i copied and pasted your comment on the Bridge thread!
