NO Luggage Storage at Padua train station?
Just finished a online chat with trenitalia rep. He said there is no luggage storage at Padua train station? Is this correct? We are trying to see theScrovegni Chapel on our way from Venice to Verona in June. TIA!

Updating to say I asked emailed Scrovegni Chapel and they do not have any luggage storage services. Asked Trenitalia a 2nd time and they reconfirmed that there is no luggage storage at Padua. What a bummer-doesn't look like we will make it to Scrovegni after all. :(
|
That's a bummer, as everything I've found on line says there is one (or at least was at the last post around August 2016), and there used to many years ago when we visited. (mai multi anni fa!)
Because the chapel is pretty close to the train station, and because the chapel is a world-class work of art, I'd see if I could get a taxi to take me there and wait (holding my baggage). |
You might find the following, walk into a hotel, ask if you can leave luggage and wave a E20 note about, most receptions would manage it I suspect.
|
dwdvagamundo: you found something from 8/16? Where was it? The most recent I saw was 2015. Bilbo: It is so disappointing, but we are 4 people and I don't know that I would book the spots at the chapel and the train travel on the assumption that someone might hold our luggage. What a shame...

Since you said "we" could you go in one at a time while the other waits at a cafe with the luggage?
Seat61.com says there is. http://www.stazionidelmondo.it/padovastazione.htm says there is. Info from 2012 says there is: There is a left luggage facility at the Padova train station from 6:30AM - 6:00PM! Prices as of October 2, 2011 is Euro 3.87 each piece for 24 hrs. The room is located right before the restroom (blue sign "WC") which is by track 1. There is a blue sign on the door that reads "Deposito Bagagli A Mano". This is run by Soc. Coop Portobagagli. |
I think things have changed since 2012, but if you really want the answer, google Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and see if they have contact information. Whether by telephone or by email you just have to ask "C'è un deposito bagagli nella stazione a Padova?" If they say si, that's a yes; if they say no, that's a no.

jan has the right idea. No reason all four of you have to see it at the same time. There's bound to be a cafe where a couple could wait with the luggage. Assuming you're traveling with a reasonable amount....

Great idea Jan and thank you for the specific information St Cirq!

There's still hope for your visit to Scrovegni Chapel! My wife and I are going next month, so after seeing your post I searched and came across an email address for L'Ufficio Turistico (the tourist office) in the Padova station.
I wrote them a couple of days ago and they answered that "there is a luggage storage in the train station. It is open from 6:30am to 6pm". Their email is [email protected] |
I've had luck leaving my bags at a local business when there were no "official" luggage storage places. In Germany in 2014, I wanted to hike up to the Burg Eltz castle (about 45 min) and had my bags with me when I got off the train at tiny Moselkern. I walked into town and found one bar open on a Sunday, and they were happy to watch them for me for a few hours while I hiked up and back. They wouldn't take any money from me, and I didn't have time to stay and eat something, so I bought an ice cream to leave with.
Rick Steves often mentions alternate luggage storage options in towns where there is no storage at the station (bike shops sometimes). I'll check my Italy book when I get home and see if he has any suggestions for Padua. |
Yes...taking turns is a great idea, especially since the Scrovegni Chapel has very tightly-timed entries...it takes 30 minutes for the entire visit...and there are a number of places to eat within three or four blocks of the Scrovegni.
At any rate, the Scrovegni Chapel is not to be missed. ssander |
According to the website, no luggage storage at Padova.

Just a thought, but we visited the Scrovegni Chapel from Venice. It was a very quick and easy day trip,
|
According to this website, there is "servizio bagagli" = see www.stazionidelmondo.it/padovastazione.htm
To be sure, email your question to [email protected] |
I'm guessing the Padua station used to have luggage storage but no longer does. The link kybourbon posted looks more legit and updated to me than the other link.

According to this website, there is "servizio bagagli" = see www.stazionidelmondo.it/padovastazione.htm<<< That isn't an official website. The link I gave was from Trenitalia. They've always listed two websites for services - grandistazioni (bigger stations) and centostazione. You see the state logo on both. |
Does Santa Lucia Station in Venice or Mestre Station have luggage storage?
Both quick train rides away from Padova. Keith and I visited Scrovengi Chapel in July, 2012. Thin |
I would much rather trust the email from the tourist office in Padua than any website which may or may not be up-to-date. When I asked a couple of days ago, they answered that there IS luggage storage at the station.
Their emai if you want to double-check: [email protected]. |
I am longing for your return from Padua - I don't care about the Chapel, I want to know if they've got a left luggage office!
