no kids under 18 allowed in irish pubs at night??!

Just read an old post that said no kids under 18 can go to pubs after 7 pm. Is that true? We were hoping to bring our 15 yr old to pubs for dinner and music next summer.

The rule has been 9:00 pm but it was recently amended to make it 10:00 during the summer months. It may still be difficult for your 15 year old to hear much music because it usually starts late.

I'm topping this just in case -- the board showed 0 responses, but there is one . . . . .

Don't they make a distinction between minors with and without their parents.

Hi bucky:

That is the law though I don't know how strictly it is enforced. Certainly in Dublin, but I sat next to a 14-15 yo in Gus O'Connor's in Doolin last November and we were there well after 10:00

If the object is simply to expose your young one to live,Trad music, The Lobby Bar, in Cork City has afternoon Trad Sessions. Most night sessions start at 9 PM Irish Time (which is to say, 'somewhere between 9:30 and 9:45', in my experience.)

It depends entirely on the pub. Some are really strict, but others will let you do just about anything, particularly if you're staying on after eating dinner.

A teen will be let in if you are having dinner at the pub and most will not enforce it too much. I thik the 7pm is mostly subutban pubs so that the parents take the kids home and people get a quieter evening for a drink as many a Sunday there will be mobs of families having a carvery dinner in the pub and the kids running around. Obivously Temple bar is not a place that is acceptable for a young teen late at night but country pubs should be ok.
