No-Jet-Lag?
Just came from a "Health Food" store and saw this product "No Jet Lag", supposedly a homeopathic concoction. Anybody ever use it? Did it work?
|
Yes.
No. |
|
What works for me and my family is to simply stay awake til at least an early dinner. Don't take a nap-- stay awake til about 7Pm local time. Any time we tried a concoction it was less than helpful
|
"Anybody ever use it" - Yes.
"Did it work?" - We have never flown internationally not using it, so can't say how we would feel if we didn't, but we always seem ready to go when we arrive - could just be from excitement. |
Homeopathy ranks right alongside astrology, Fung Shui, healing with crystals, and dowsing for water in its appeal to the gullible and poorly educated. Save your money. |
And I always believed that cutting open one of my aloe plants and smearing the goop on a burn actually helped.
I guess vinegar doesn't stop jellyfish stings. Wow, those poor stupid fools in pharmaceutical companies throughout the world who actually try to use natural items for medicinal purposes are just gullible or uneducated. Yes, there are many things that are just flim-flam, but you cannot discount 5,000 years of Chinese herbal medicine. Then what do I know, I only have two graduate degrees. dave |
Homeopathy is not the use of "natural items." It is the notion that liquid water somehow retains a "memory" of substances (such as arsenic or mercury) after extreme dilution. The liquid supposedly retains the "spirit" of the harmful substance without the harmful physical effects that the actual substance would inflict. |
You are right. I shouldn't respond before my second cup of coffee.

Not trying to continue in an off-topic discussion, but I felt that the misinformation about Homeopathy should be addressed.
What smueller discrbes something that wasn't even presented until 20 years ago. Homeopathic treatment has been with us since the 18th century. It's really based on a "like disease" theory. This theory goes as far back as Hippocrates and Louis Pasteur used it as a basis for his vaccinations. Today homepathy gets much deeeper bthan this, but I agree that there are some aspects of homeopathy that are very questionable. To lump everyone as "gullible" who subscribes to some homeopathic treatments is to include The British Medical Journal doctors who have concluded that homeopathy is a regular treatment for some illnesses. The next time you visit France you'll find that French pharmacies are required to make homeopathic remedies available along with conventional medications. I'm in no way an apologists for some of the "strange" ideas that seem to come from many people who embrace this line of treatment. |
I used it and it did nothing for me.

Don't think that 5,000 years of Chinese herbal medicine would have anything to do with jet lag! (Ancient flying?)

There is, literally, nothing in homeopathic remedies.
They are diluted thousands of times beyond the point where there is even a single molecule of the supposedly beneficial substance left in the bottle that you buy. Homeopathic remedies appeal to people who have no conception of arithmetic. A homeopathic preparation marked as having a dilution of "30X" has been diluted 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times, which is something like the number of water molecules in a container the size of the entire earth -- and that's a MODEST dilution. The philosophical underpinnings of homeopathy, the "like for like" and "miasma" business, are relics of the prescientific age of medicine, before we knew what germs are, for instance. Modern homeopathy claims to be immune to scientific testing, which is just ludicrous. Homeopathy is, quite simply, rubbish. It's nothing to do with herbal remedies or other non-standard techniques that have been shown to have some efficacy. |

Ginger can relieve motion sickness... hmmm, isn't that homeopathic? |
No, taking ginger for motion sickness is not homeopathic. There's lots of info available on the web concerning homeopathy.
