no idea what train to use from Florence to Venice
 

This time I need help on train travel, I would like to go from Florence to Venice by train, (one way) I have no idea which train to use. Can someone help me with this please. I see different train names and routes and don't know which one to choose.

ES will be the faster train and 2nd class is fine. If you are purchasing tickets from Trenitalia.com, the price will include your seat reservation. You will want Venice SL not Mestre.

I don´t understand why you don´t simply take the connection with the best timing, or the cheapest. www.trenitalia.com

There are trains throughout the day on most days.

The Santa Lucia station is the one which puts you closest to the city itself; Maestre is across the lagoon.

First Class seating is a bit more spacious and will probably be less crowded than Second; only YOU can decide if that is worth the extra money IMO.

The ES* is more reliable and faster than the IC. 2cl on the ES* is about the same price as 1cl on the IC.

You don't want the one where you have to change trains.

Don't worry about the type of train. Look at the schedule and pick the one with the times that suit your itinerary.
From Firenze to Venezia, there is only one route which is via Bologna. There are some through trains and other connections where you have to change trains in Bologna. A through train would be better unless you want to stop for lunch in Bologna, a city famous for its cuisine.
The trains are fairly frequent so you can pick one that suits your needs.

Or you could wait until you are in Italy and just go to the train station and buy a ticket for the date and time you want.

I assume that you're going to be in Florence a few days before going to Venice. If so, go to the station at least one day before departure and ask for a 2nd class Amica fare. That fare on a direct Firenze-Venezia Santa Lucia EuroStar Italia train is €24. The walk-up 2nd class fare is €30.

Or if you want to save a few euros, take an ICplus train to Bologna and a regional train from there to Venezia Santa Lucia. No Amica fares are sold for that route, but the standard fare is €17.70.

Or take an IC train to Venezia Mestre for an Amica fare of €16.40 or a standard fare of €23.50. Then take a local train from Mestre to Santa Lucia.

An Amica fare is a discount fare of 20% off the standard fare. For trains on which it is available it must be purchased no later than one day before departure.

For a simple one time train ride like this, I think it is much easier to make you arrangements once you are in Italy, instead of over the internet from home.
