No breakfast please
When a hotel sends price of rooms and the cost of breaskfast (in this case 10.00 euros per person) Do we just tell them we are not interested in the breakfast? Has anyone ever run into a problem when booking and not taking the breakfast? Thanks

If the price for breakfast is listed separately, I assume that it is optional. Never had a problem being charged for it if we didn't eat it.

Not sure which country you are asking this question about, but in Paris the hotel had breakfast, but there was no problem not eating their breakfast. We just used the teapot in the room and found a bakery right around the corner and had all those wonderful French pastries for our breakfast.

If the price is listed separately, it's your choice. I don't think you need to let them know ahead of time, you can decide day-by-day.
At the Paris hotel we stayed at last year, they checked our room number as we came into the breakfast room, then added the price to our bill. |
When a hotel tells you the breakfast price that means it is not included in the price of the room..if it were you would be told that at reservation time (breakfast included is the usual phrase). When it isn't then you have the option of eating it or not and will only be charged each time, if at all, you do so. This is standard procedure in every european hotel I've evr stayed in.

French hotels will assume that you took breakfast. Just tell them you didn't when you check out and they will be happy to remove it. In the UK, if the rate is bed and breakfast then you will pay that rate and no amount of pleading will get a refund. Ask when you check in whether the rate is room only or B&B.

Why would the French hotels assume you've taken breakfast if it is optional? I recall that when we stayed at different hotels and breakfast was optional, the server would ask for our room number and I thought that's how they track if the guest took breakfast. We weren't charged when we did not take breakfast.

I have to agree with francophile. I've never had it assumed that I took breakfast, in addition to asking for the room number, you are ususally asked to sign the ticket.
If the rate INCLUDES breakfast or is a B&B, you might as well eat it as you have been charged for it and you certainly won't get a reduction. |
When I stayed at the Familia Hotel in Paris, the rate I was quoted included breakfast, but when we didn't have the breakfast it was removed from the total and we actually paid less than advertised.
