Ahhh, here's flygirl's camera thread! Thanks, chica!

I just bought an Olympus C-5500 SportZoom with 5.1 effective megapixel CCD, 5x optical, 4x digital zoom for $224 (20% off at MicroCenter) just within the past hour! I am so excited - my first digital camera!! Paris , here I come!! I figure this is not a bad camera for a newbie-to-digital/amateur photographer. I was going to buy 2 of the big memory cards (that each hold about 300 photos) but they had run out of them at the MicroCenter. Lucky me to get there just before closing. I figure 600 photos will be about what I'll take for a 16-day trip. I just need to figure out a place in Paris where I might possibly download the photos to a computer than upload them to CDs while I'm there (just in case).

Sorry, I know the original thread was about Nikon v. Canon but since flygirl topped this with me and since I'm so stoked, I thought I'd share.

Hi, I didn't read every single post on this topic, however I am going to buy the Nikon Coolpix 5600 (5.1 megapixel)..It is rated as "outstanding image quality" in the PC World Magazine (June 2005)..The review say's "This compact, versatile model deftly handled our imaging tests, showing better image exposures than even its higher megapixel sibling, the 7900"
In Canada this week it is going for 349.00 Canadian..Anyhow, just thought I would mention this..

We bought an early CoolPix for more than $900 and were very disappointed, not in the time lag, but because the camera was not very user friendly. Both my husband and I are left-handed, and part of our trouble with the camera stemmed from that, I'm sure. It's still in a drawer somewhere, and DH has moved on to a teeny digital camcorder while I am taking beautiful photos with my inexpensive (cheap! Not much over $100 at Wal-Mart) Hewlett Packard. I took these photos of Costa Rica in February with the HP: ttp://www.worldisround.com/articles/132431/index.html
