NIGHTS IN CAPPADOCCIA??

HOW MANNY NIGHTS (DAYS) DO WE NEED TO SEE THE AREA? ALSO KNOW ANY GOOD HOTELS IN THE CAVES?

Chris - My friend and I booked a 2 day tour of Cappadoccia. We went to an underground city and the caves. Our guide was a local retired schoolteacher who had lived in the caves as a child. We stayed at a hotel in Guyseri. We did not see any hotels in caves while we were there.

I'm going to the region this summer, and I'll be staying in a small hotel built into the caves in a town called Ayvali. ONe of the centers of tourism in the region is Urgup, and I know there are several hotels there. There are many in the region. I recommend looking at some guidebooks to get a sense of what's offered.

I'm planning to stay 4 nights (3 full days) to see the area; it's a unique place in the world, and I think worth as much time as you can give it. A minimum would be 3 nights, I think.
I'm working with a wonderful guide located in Cappadocia. As a rule, my husband are very independent travellers, ignoring any tours at all. I felt this was an area worth taking some kind of tour to really get a good feel for the region. Through this agent, we are hiring a guide and car for one day, taking a small group guided tour for another, and on the third day, we'll begin a car rental and explore on our own.
I highly recommend this guide; he's been a pleasure to correspond with and has helped me with hotels, car rentals, and some of my itinerary (I did most of my planning before we began to correspond). If you want to contact him, his name is Suleyman, and his company is Cappadocia tours (website: http://www.cappadociatours.com)
Paule

Chris,
My friend just returned from Turkey about two weeks ago (loved it). Here are her suggestions for Cappodoccia:

She stayed two full days and did see many caves. She stayed at: Esbelli Evi in Urgup (pretty sure it's a cave hotel)and said she could have spent her life there. It was gorgeous and the owner , Suha, (his first name) was very helpful. (By the way, she got this hotel suggestion from a Fodor's poster). The hotel has a website: www.esbelli.com.tr and an email address: [email protected] She used the email address to make her reservations and found it to be very efficient. I can only tell you that I visited Cappodoccia years ago and it remains one of the most fascinating places I have seen. You will be amazed.

Enjoy it.

Michele

I haven't yet been there - planning that next year (I hope), but a business associate just got back from Turkey. One of the highlights of her trip was Cappodocia. She stayed in Urgup at the Urgup Evi. Their website is www.urgupevi.com.tr. Apparently it's a cave hotel and she loved it.

The Globe & Mail (Canadian paper) had a wonderful article last Saturday about hot air ballooning in Cappodocia. It sounded wonderful.
