Night Trains-SAFE???
How safe are two young women traveling on night trains from Munich to Vienna and then from Budapest to Prague. Anything we should look out for or beware of??
Thanks |
Hi M,
Just lock your door. |
I would recommend you put something on the floor in front of the door as well. Friend of mine had a rogue train employee try to enter their little room while they were asleep - but the noise of whatever they had put on the floor woke them.
(By the way YOU are perfectly safe - its only your belongings that are in potential danger.) |
Are you planning to travel in normal seats, shared couchette compartment, or a private double sleeper?
|
i did an over night trip from Montpelier to Venice, and i brought a bike lock to lock up mu suitcases, this was also helpful because i could put my stuff on the luggage rack between compartments during out other train rides. Also me and my friend (females age 22,23)got lucky and were put in a sleeping cabin with two other young American girls..they were a tad annoying, but at least we felt safe with them.

If you plan on sleeping, you better book a double sleeper compartment rather than the six bunk couchette. Much safer and quieter...lock the door...sleep with your money belt or neck pouch UNDER YOU.

Topping for the original poster- just because it is a night train, there are still (usually) several options on how you travel. Regular seats, couchette shared bunks, or private double compartments.
