Night Trains Mestre - Venice

Hi

Can anyone please tell me whether trains run after 11.30 pm from Venice Mestre to Venice S.Lucia and vice versa. Found very nice hotel in Mestre but don't know if it'll be handy if no trains run after this time.

Thanks

Christina

Have you thought about taking a look at the timetable? According to the following (this is a Swiss site but it is easy to use and reliable), there is one leaving 23:33 and the next and the last one seems 00:06 and it takes 10:00 to arrive Venice Santa Lucia.

Thanks for reply

Tried trenitalia website before posting but seems that last train is 11.59pm and next 07 am...but don't know if i was doing something wrong.

Tried web link you sent and looks to be an easier site than trenitalia one, however since i'm looking for july 13th - july 17th, it seems it won't give me a schedule so far ahead of time

Thanks again

Are you staying in Mestre for sight-seeing in central Venice? That's really not very "handy" at all.

Thought it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Have visited Venice before and stayed on the Lido.

Train is 10 mins away and generally on all our holidays we leave hotel in morning and go back again in the evening.

Reason for train query is that on July 14 there is the Festival of Redentore....with lots of fireworks and liveliness....however since fireworks begin at 11.30pm....need to know we can get back to hotel.

Any suggestions for hotel on Lido. One we previously stayed at hasn't replied by email and can't get through by phone either....Villa Pannonia

Thanks

New time table for July should change very little (or not at all) so I'm almost sure there are at least 2 tains after 23:30.

At the moment, S.Lucia to Mestre :
23:37, 23:56, 00:04. Those should be running in summer to, if with a little modification of a few minutes earlier or later.

Many thanks

Do you think staying in Mestre is a liability? Would value your honest opinion.

But if the fireworks start at 23:30, as you say, wouldn't that last at least 15 or 30 minutes? and then return to the station and take, the train, would be too late for 00:04 train. Would there be a special late train or two for the occasion? Otherwise, I would stay on Venice proper.

From research on the web, the fireworks last for at least an hour.

Found out about Festival after we booked flights...but luckily didn't yet book hotel....problem seems to be that the rooms in Venice seem on the smallish side and we are 2 adults and teenage son so are looking for triple room or suite. Hotels in Mestre seem better adapted for 3 persons. Hotel we are looking at it the Best Western - Hotel Bologna.

Also quite have been looking at Hotel Panorama on Lido

Think it's a good idea of yours that extra trains may run on this day.

Think we'll call the hotel and see if they can help

Good luck, either Mestre, Lido or Venice. Hope you will get a well air conditoned room. I was glad I did in July last year.

schinisc Apr 19th, 2007 11:39 AM

Air conditioning was the main reason reason we were looking for nicer hotel. We actually live in Cyprus so we know what hot Julys are like.....probably even hotter here than in Venice with appropriate humidity levels.....think we are beginning to wonder why we cancelled our original destination of Alaska!!

Just contacted hotel that informed us that last train to Mestre is 11.30 pm but that coaches run every 30 mins from P.Le Roma to Mestre round the clock.

I would stay in Venice proper, or the Lido.

Everyone's different but for me, yes, staying in Mestre would be a liability.

Venice proper is better than either the Lido or Mestre. It's great to be in a place with no cars.

May I know which hotel you found in Mestre? What was your experience with it?
