Night Trains Berlin to Malmö Copenhagen
 

Hi, Me and my husband are traveling next summer to Europe and we wanted to know something's about Night trains in general and if anyone has taken night train from Berlin to Malmo or vice versa. Is it better to take a night train and get a private cart with 2 beds? Or jut take the hour 20 min flight to the location? Are you able to sleep through the whole night or do you need to change trains or hand in documents at borders?

Any advise one can give on night trains in general and the pros/cons also if anyone has done night train from berlin would be super helpful.

What 20 minute flight are you talking about? Berlin to Copenhagen is about an hour - but when you add getting to and fro airports, security, check-in etc - you are talking about 4 hours or so.

1 hr 20 min is the flight I think. Im torn because if we go to Malmo we still need to then take train into Copenhagen and I heard that the Malmo train does not offer double cabins only 6 person. And if we go from Berlin to Copenhagen I think you don't get into the station til 1200 noon which menas you already lost part of the day IDK I have never done a night train. I really appreciate your feedback everyone.

My wife and I love night trains. You save the expense of a night in a hotel and save most of a day(if not entire day)for sightseeing instead of traveling. We get short vacations, so gaining that extra day makes it worth traveling by Night Train.
If you book a "Night Train" then there are no train changes or documents to show. You just check in on the train, go to sleep, and wake up in a new city. On the BAHN website make sure you look for "CNL" (City Night Line) with 0 changes.
We always get a private 2 bed cabin. If you book far enough out (as soon as the tickets go on sale for your date)then they are pretty reasonably priced.
When considering the cost compare between a flight or NT, take the flight cost, add in the hotel expense of 1 night, the cost of travel to and from the city center (airports are outside the city center), also consider what is a day lost to traveling worth to you.
Most recently we took the night train from Amsterdam to Copenhagen and in a couple of weeks a part of our trip includes a NT from Paris to Venice.
