Night trains, again

We want to take the train hotel from Paris to Barcelona this summer. I'm trying to book it but am running into a problem because we have one youth, one adult, and one senior. I was shooting for one T4 for all of us two T4s by gender (it would be great we can buy the whole car and stay together, but I'm getting mixed info on that) or a comfort double for the youth and adult and a comfort single for the senior.

It may be that they are just plain sold out, but the message we're getting is that we have to book the passengers in two transactions since they are different classes of passenger...and so therefore, the different class passenger (the youth, I assume) would not necessarily be placed with the the others. Even if we have to split into two T4s, I'd want my daughter with me...so booking them separately just doesn't make sense.

I'm a train newbie. Is there something obvious here I'm missing?

Thanks!

We (finally) got this figured out. Now my daughter wants to know if the comfort class double she and I are booked in will have a double bed, single bed, bunk beds...in short, she doesn't want to sleep in the same bed as me. (Which is understandable.) If anyone knows it would be great. For now, I threw out a few cliches such as "don't borrow trouble" and "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

I would have put her in the single and her dad and I in the double, but I didn't know how far the compartments be separated by. I'd also be interested in knowing if we could swap compartments, once we get on board, if it looks as if the single would work well for our teen. Thanks.

Your double will probably look like the photo of the double on the right side of the link (yes, you are seeing the whole compartment- it is pretty much the length of a bed and about as wide as a double bed). The top bunk stows in the wall during the day and the bottom bunk is used as a sofa.

Ok, link did not work as I hoped. Click on the link and look for "couchettes and sleeping cars" mid page, towards the right side. Click on "couchettes and sleeping cars" and you will see the photo I am trying to show you.

I think that when the teen sees how tiny the compartment is, she will want the single (I am the parent of a teen :)).

try www.seat61.com for layouts of train cars on this train or www.budgeteuropetravel.com - one or the other should cover this i think

Thanks for the information and the links! I'm open to The Kid switching over to the single once we get on board if it's allowed *and* it turns out that it's close by. I was concerned with her being way off by herself -- though she'd love it -- so I booked her in with me. In either case, she'll be glad to know that she has her own berth.
