Night train with private sleeper to Budapest
I can't seem to find out too much about this on rail europe site and others. We'd like to find a private sleeper for 2 on a train from Krakow to Budapest.
Some of the sites I've seen on my searches are no longer valid or don't seem to have much detailed info. Help please. Thanks. |
Checking the schedule on www.bahn.de there's a direct train with sleeper that leaves Krakow at 22:30 and arrives Budapest Keleti at 9:22.

Thanks. I saw that but I still don't know how to tell if it's a private room sleeper, etc.
Please let me know if you know. Tks. |
All sleepers are "private". Compartments generally have two or three bunks. If the train has only three-berth compartments and you want a compartment for two, then you have to pay a higher fare to gain exclusive use of a compartment (usually the first class fare plus a supplement) and the unused bunk will be folded away out of sight.

Hey there!
We just did this trip going the other way (Budapest to Krakow) and had a fantastic time on the night train. We bought our tickets in the Budapest train station and somewhere between our English, their Hungarian, and a lot of hand signals and smiling, we got our tickets. Ask for sleeper or couchette and make sure both tickets are for the same car. Ours were ~150 USD (25 and under rate), but the rooms for cozy and the trip was great (left at 8, arrived at 5.30). Check out www.seat61.com for more info on trains. Krakow train station has a special international office. Also...don't jump out of your skin when you cross borders and the patrols knock on your door! |
