Nice train station/car rental/hotel

We will be arriving in Nice via TGV. Is there a car rental pick-up at the station?

Can anyone recommend a nice 2 star hotel in or around (within hour's drive)Nice? We will have been in route all day starting in Rennes to CDG, then on to Nice. We won't want to drive far.

Thanks!

Not a two-star, but the Hotel Le Grimaldi in Nice is a four-star that is a very good value, about a 10 EUR cab ride from the train station. We paid just 150EUR for a twin 'standard' room last month. It was quite large, and very nice. Good location for walking around Nice, too. I posted a trip report on Nice that you can find if you click on my name above, or I'll cut and paste it here if you can't find it. We spent three nights in Nice and really liked it there.

Don't think we can afford Le Grimaldi.

Do you know if the car rental site is near the train station? Once we pick up the car we could drive to a less expensive area.

Sorry, I didn't notice any rental car offices. We only took the bus and train.

Just about anything on the coast tends to be prices, but it you go inland you can get nice accommodations at better rates.

You could try the small town of Mouans-Sartoux, not far above Cannes. It's a pretty little place not on the tourist path, which makes it seem much more French than the towns on the coast. The drive from Nice takes about 30 minutes.

Here's one possibility there, the hotel La Louisiane:

Also nice is the town of Valbonne. You could try the hotel Les Armoires, right on the town square.

Also good is the town of Vence, up in the mountains (about a 30-minute drive from Nice) above the very costly St-Paul-de-Vence. Look here for some hotel possibilities:

Finally, if you enter chambresdhotes.grasse you will find a number of good B&Bs. Here's one to look at:

If you're going this summer, get a reservation ASAP!

Thank you for your responses. We've had a change of plans and are going to skip Nice for this trip. Perhaps another time! Again, thank you all.
