Nice to LAX, connecting in Paris CDG - what happens?
 

We're traveling LAX - NCE through CDG in April, no carry-ons, all flights Air France (one ticket all the way through). We land in terminal 2E and fly out of 2F. I think what happens is that we arrive and go through Passport control, walk over the bridge to terminal 2F (I seem to remember some walkway from our trip to Madrid through CDG) . Do we go through security again? I don't remember. We have 1 hour 45 minutes for the connection. Hope that's enough.

My question is more what happens on the return flight: Nice to LAX, again connecting through CDG - mainly with the new security procedures. Again, we have 1 hour 45 minutes. Do we go through Security in Nice, then take the walkway (not going out of the secured zone) from 2F across to 2E?

Tried to find this in the Forums and couldn't, so thanks for explaining it again!

Have to confess things may have changed since my last trip but since the flight from Nice to CDG is a domestic flight for AF, they will have less security checks. It's at CDG that you'll go through the intense screening.

Thank you for that link, sfgirl. I'd looked online at the CDG website and been unable to find that information.

Looks like the inbound flight, depending on the arrival gate, will either be a short or a very long shuttle from 2E to 2F, security, then lounge? Isn't there customs or immigration or something like that? (I feel like I've looked this up before and have forgotten the process).

From this AF website, it looks like on the return flight we walk from 2F to 2E, leaving the restricted area, then border police checkpoint, then security.

Somewhere in there it sounds backwards. Oh well. Anyone else?

One hour 45 minutes sound awfully short to make your connection to me. some airports have been advising arriving at the airport four hours in advance of international flights to the States.

I did a similar connection last year and I'm sure we had to go through security a second time even though you are sort of technically kept in the " secure area". I've transferred through there several times and sometimes been able to walk and other times been forced to take the shuttle. Sometimes very short lines for the shuttle and security, sometimes very long. You just don't know. Since it is all on one AirFrane ticket they will get you to your destination if you miss your connecting flight. On the way over, there are going to be several flights a day from Paris to Nice so worst case you might have to wait a few hours. But on the way back there is usually only one transatlantic flight so if you miss it that would be more of a problem.

Check to see if there is a second flight to LAX after the one you are scheduled on the same day. If not, see if you can get an earlier flight from Nice to Paris. The connection going over wouldn't bother me at all, the one coming back would.

I've done that flight but it was some years ago. No, you don't go through "customs" when you are just in transit from one flight to another. You never go through customs at CDG even if you are arriving in Paris from the US, unless you want to. I never have because I never had any reason to say I needed to go through customs.

They do glance at your passport or something, as I recall, but it's not the same thing as the place where you go through when you are arriving in Paris to stay. It's special for people in transit.
