Nice to Chamonix
Is there any easy way of traveling from Nice to Chamonix? Trains seem to take about 10 hours. Would flying be an option? What is the closest airport to Chamonix? Is it Geneva? Turin?

Thanks!

Geneva is the closest airport, then it's a relatively easy, 100 % autoroute ride from Geneva to Chamonix (1 1/2 hours). Check on www.amadeus.net for the plane connections between Nice and Geneva. It won't come cheap though, especially if you are talking one way trip. Another - twisted but why not - solution would be to fly EasyJet Nice to Orly, then Orly to Geneva. Sounds complicated, but it'll end up quite cheap, and altogether it's less than two hours' flight (without the layover... ). And, depending on the season, it shouldn't cost you more than 100 euros. Check on www.easyjet.com

Oops ! My mistake and good news for you: I actually checked the Easyjet site and they have two daily flights from Nice to Geneva, departing 8h30 and 17h40, lasting about an hour. The prices are amazing, starting at 22.50 all taxes included if you fly after the holiday season and on a week day !Otherwise, it can go up to 150 euros or so. Book as early as possible, anyway you can always change your booking by paying a - modest - 25 euro fee.
