Nice Paris Hotel
 

My husband and I are going to Paris in September -- our first trip -- for our anniversary. We are looking for suggestions for a very nice, well-located hotel. Thanks.

There are at least 500 of them. Are you looking to spend $100 a night? $500? Looking for modern conveniences or more local charm?

We would be willing to spend up to $400 per night, or a little higher, and prefer like modern conveniences -- with at least SOME local charm.

Look at the Hotel du Louvre, right across from the museum. It is a very nice four star property. If you look at their rates you might be scared off, but check for specials of which they have many or look at booking through discounters. Large, elegant rooms in a perfect location for your first trip to Paris.

For smaller, more quaint and charming, I still love and recommend Relais St. Germain -- only 20 some elegantly decorated large rooms in the 6th, close to Odeo metro, and right off St. Germain.

If you are willing to spend that kind of money check out the Madison in the 6th. Very nice and the area is excellent with many cafes and bistros withing walking distance. We stayed there two years ago and it had all of the modern conveniences and a great breakfast buffet. However, there are many hotels that are nice in the area for much less if you look a bit. Ira often mentions the Bonaparte, which is also in the 6th and that is where we will stay on our next trip based on some great reviews on this site. Whereever you stay you will love Paris. We've often stayed at Relais Christine, which has some lovely but compact jr. suites. However, the hotel has gotten too expensive, so this July, we've booked Hotel D'Aubusson, which is just around the corner from Relais Christine.

Hotel D'Aubusson has some very pretty superior and loft apartments, and is in a perfect area for exploring much of Paris. From that location, you can easily walk to the Latin Quarter, Notre Dame, the Louvre, and Musee D'Orsay.

The hotel is only a few blocks from the Seine in one direction, and in the opposite direction, only a few blocks from St. Germaine. There are tons of excellent restaurants and great boutqiue shopping right in the neighborhood.



Check to see if D'Aubusson is offering any specials. We were able to get a superior room for 290E with breakfast in late July.

For first timers I suggest the 1st arr.; the Hotel Cambon is well located, near a central metro (Concorde),and all the great sites etc. English bookstore is next door as are a number of fine, reasonably priced restaurants. It is a ****, privately owned with great service. The suite on the top floor is superb. You can't go wrong here!

personnaly, I will go for the Hotel Horset Opera, family owned and runned 4 stars hotel in the 2nd district. Very central, close to Opera, Madeleine and Louvre. A little gem.
