Nice or St.Paul
What are the pros and cons in staying in either Nice or St. Paul for 4 days.I'm confused and can't decide where to stay. We will have a car.
Thanks for your input |
Nice is a large city, St Paul a hilltop village. Where to stay depends on what you like to do. Do you want to visit a few places, or just relax for a few days?
I would stay in Nice, since it will be easier to visit other places from there; you can spend a day in St Paul. Just be aware that parking can be difficult in Nice. And depending on the time of year, heavy traffic too. |
St Paul de Vence is tiny, picturesque, full of art galleries and not much else. Nice is a city with a nice waterfront, loads of shops and restaurants, a nice old town with market etc. I would definitely stay in Nice, if it were me.
You can easily get to St Paul from Nice by public bus, cost is about 1.30 euro each, one way. Not sure where you'd park if you drove, there are no cars in St Paul at all but I guess there might be a car park outside the walls. Kay |
There is a large parking deck just outside the walls in St-Paul.
Decide what you want to see in the area. If you're interested in the hill towns I would stay in St-Paul since I wouldn't want to be driving in and out of Nice every day. You can always do a day trip to Nice. If you're more interested in what Nice has to offer and want a day trip to St-Paul then stay in Nice but forget the car and take the bus to St-Paul. You won't want a car to sightsee in Nice. Is there more to the itinerary than Nice/St-Paul to help in the decision making? |
I have stayed in both.. but I personally perfer staying in Vence or Tourettes sur loop (which are also quite close to St. Paul).
It may just come down to a preference of small town vs. bigger city.. and which you prefer. Nice is more convenient if you want to explore Monaco and Eze. The hillside towns like St. Paul are absolutely wonderful. You can't go wrong with etiher choice. My only caution on St. Paul is that it is quite small... and largely touristy. I find it a bit too small. On my first visit, I spent 2 nights in Nice and 2 nights in Vence. I really didn't mind moving - and I got the best of both. I don't necessarily recommend this - but I was there on business and took my mother in law. I wanted her to have a variety of experiences - and she appreciated it. |
We stayed in Nice for 4 nights and drove to SP. Very lovely but as Julie says -it is touristy.
So many great places to drive to if youre based in nice! |
