Nice or Monte Carlo
A friend of mine needs advice. e is 80, single, full of life and will find himself in the S. France for a couple of days after a cruise. He is taking a flight out of Nice and is wondering where he should stay. i have little expertise in thsi corner of France. Suggestions are welcome.

It really depends on what he likes to do. If he's a gambler, definitely Monaco. If not, I think he'd find more to do/see in Nice and environs. Also, what's his budget?

I absolutely love Nice. I only visit Monte Carlo when I am traveling with someone who wants to go there.

A lovely historic hotel I can recommend in Nice is the Hotel le Grimaldi. It is a boutique-style hotel (no seaviews though) with great service, a very nice breakfast buffet for a small additional charge, a free business center. Rates are very reasonable.
Here's a link to my Nice trip report from our three night stay in May 2006: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34810691 |
great info. Thanks - I'll send him to Nice!

Nice is one of my favorite cities. . Hotel Le Grimaldi is very nice. YOu can also check Hotel Windsor, which is just across the street from the sea. And, depending on his budget, two top-end hotels are: Le Palais de la Mediterrannee, also across from the sea, and Le Perouse. HOpe he has a great time in Nice!

I agree that Nice would probably be the best bet. I believe the Windsor is several blocks from the sea however.

There's a casino in Nice, very close to the hotels Le Meridien and the Mercure Promenade des Anglais. Whether your friend is a gambler or not, I'd recommend Nice: much more to do there than in Monte Carlo.

sequess,
My mistake about HOtel Windsor! I meant to post about Hotel Westminster, where I've often stayed, which is located on the Promenade des Anglais, across from the sea. |
