swilshire: As I mentioned on one of your other posts -- if you bid priceline in the Knightsbridge/Kensington/Earls Court zone you will most likely get one of two hotels - both about an 8-10 minute walk from Allen House. But ANY hotel in that zone will be bettr/more convenient than Craven Hill Gdns

look at biddingfortravel.com

kdd: I personally would not stay in St Stephens Gdns. It is near the Westway and the closest tube stations are Westbourne Park and Royal Oak

Craven Hill in Paddington is a good area. Full of hotels. Really close to oxford street if you like shopping. Paddington is also a major train hub if you're planning any day trips to Oxford, etc.

Slide_away: Yes - but the rest of swilshire's family is staying at Allen House which is not close to Craven Gardens. This is only for his two oldest kids and he would like them to be a bit closer.

Thanks for the Priceline suggestions. I've been bidding, but I'm also hoping some miracle will come up and Allen House will have a cancellation so we can upgrade to a larger unit, so I'm trying to avoid anything that can't be cancelled and haven't been bidding very high. That may need to change since I'll be on the way to the airport this time next week.

If you get a cancellation at Allen House I suggest you play the lottery It may happen but not very likely at all. It is one of the hardest properties to get into anywhere in the world as an exchange. Now of course - when I say that, you may have a notice of a cancellation waiting in your in box right now.

[I mentioned your trip to my Mom (an old RCI veteran) and told her you got both Cameron House and Allen House for consecutive weeks and she was totally floored]

I probably should have played the lottery after I lucked into the 1br Allen House. I actually rented it from a TUG member who planned to use it but had to cancel her trip. Very reasonably priced, especially compared to the dumpy hotel rooms we had booked.

She posted the rental offer at six one Saturday morning. I saw it and responded about an hour later and was already fourth in line. It truly was a miracle that we got it. It overlaps by a day on each end with our exchanges, so we'll have to make choices.

I knew I'd never get the Allen House on exchange, so I had booked weeks at Cameron House and the Osborne Club and thought it would be simple to just rent hotel rooms in London for the five nights in between. I had no idea it was Wimbledon week. DUH!

I still have one night with no bed for this trip. Got to work on that. I've been bidding on Priceline every day for something near Liverpool or Chester. No luck so far.

Plus we've decided to spend the night before our departure near the airport in Atlanta rather than driving down that day. We'd have plenty of time to get there if we left around 7A, but I keep thinking of all the Murphy's law type things that could happen. Car trouble. Traffic problems (almost a given trying to get to the other side of Atlanta on a weekday). I think we'd be better off leaving the night before and sleeping late so we're not so tired.

This time next week we'll be driving from Manchester to Wales.

I appreciate the help I've received here.

kdd, Why don't you list the vrbo #'s you are looking at. Your descriptions sound very familiar of an owner I rented from.
