Nice in Winter?

I am thinking of planning a trip to Nice at the end of December. Does anyone have any experience with this time of year in Nice? Is the city still active, and would the weather permit some exploration of the surrounding areas?

Not in December but we went in November one year.
Weather was cool but sunny. Rain one day out of 5.
Very uncrowded which was a major plus in hotel prices and in visting places like St paul de vence and eze.
Most places open but restaurants quite strict about lunch hours etc.

Do you mean during Christmas? If so, you may find hotel space a little hard to come by. There's still plenty to do and it's a very short train ride to some pretty interesting places. Just pack expecting cold rain and forget about the weather. Have fun!
