Nice Hotel in Athens and Thessaloniki under $200

ATHENS: My mom and aunt want to stay in a nice hotel near Syntagma Square or the Plaka area. They'd like a quiet (is this possible?) and safe area, but don't want to spend more than 200 US dollars per night. This is for late April /early May.

THESSALONIKI: Here they're not so sure where they want to stay, perhaps near the sea or that famous tower, but the same criteria apply.

Any recommendations?
Thank you so much!

Dina

Excellent bargain hotel, refurbished for the last Olympics:

http://www.attalos.gr/

Has a rooftop lounge with a view of the Acropolis and Parthenon.

I've stayed at the Hotel Amalia in Thessaloniki and found it quite comfortable. Easy walking distance from the main plateia (square).

In Thessaloniki I stayed at Caspi, at Amalia and at ABC. I loved ABC, near White Tower.

Sorry, I do not know what happend with my previous message..However, I did not write about hotel in Athens. I stayed in Esperia Palace, ~ 100 Euro / night. Very good location.

We liked the Athens Cypria very much. Ask for a 6th floor room with a view of the Parthenon from your balcony.

To brotherleelove: I looked up the Attalos Hotel you suggested and it looks too good to be true for the price. What's the catch? We were thinking of booking at the Electra Palace which is triple (or more) the price.

No catch. It's a very good budget hotel. Book it, you won't regret it. It was completely refurbished for the Olympics so everything is in good condition.
