Nice - free day
In mid April I will be on a business trip and have a free Sunday in Nice, France and am looking for suggestions.
|
Explore Nice !!! or take a train to Villefranche sur Mer or bus to St Paul..

You could also take the bus to St. Jean Cap de Ferrat and then walk the beautiful seaside promenade that twists around the coast there. Town itself is quite small- a handful of galleries and stores- but it has some of the best seafood restaurants ever at port level, like LE SAFARI, where you can get a bowl of really fresh mussels and great steak frites.
St. Paul de Vence is worth a trip, too, but it can be quite a tourist trap, and is likely to be more crowded than St. Jean. However, it has some lovely restaurants with outstanding views of the countryside, very good galleries and shops within the walls, and can be a pleasant day trip. There's a bus from Nice that takes about 50 minutes from the center of town to St. Paul. |
Sorry! I'm mixing up Nice restaurants with St. Jean's! That should be: LE SLOOP in St. Jean, not LE SAFARI, which is one of Nice's well-known seafood restaurants!

If you have a day in Nice - stay in Nice.
Walk around, visit the old town, the port, several museums ,and good restaurants. |
Does Le Safari in Nice have a Web site?
Thanks. |
I would go to one of the art museums, the old town, rent a chair at the beach and have lunch brought to me by a minion. Then have a nice dinner.
|
Le Safari is in the center of Old Nice. Very easy to find, and very popular. I don't think they take reservations.
|
Safari does take reservations (we've reserved twice). I also think they have a web site. They are on the Cours Saleya. Only eatible food we've had on the Cours.

Another good seafood restaurant in Nice, very popular with the locals (our French friends took us there) is the Café de Turin. It's very near the modern-art museum.

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas. My only wish is that I had more time in Nice!
|
If the weather is warm, I'd spend the day on the beach.
Otherwise, I'd probably jump on the train to Cannes or Monaco (assuming that I would have the chance to see some of Nice on other days of the business trip. And, I'd have mussels and frittes at Barracuda again :-) |
