Here's a top ten site, fyi:

http://gofrance.about.com/od/nicetra...ttractions.htm

Hub and I enjoyed the old part of Nice and spent at least 1/2 of a day savoring it. There is another art museum and I'm having a senior moment about the name-it is/was a restaurant and a bunch of Impressionists painters paid the owner in paintings!

We had a super dinner at Tire Bouchon: http://www.le-tire-bouchon.com/

And an amazing vegetarian lunch at Magic Pumpkin: http://www.lazuccamagica.com/

The Russian Orthodox Church is nifty if that sort of thing interests you.

The Russian church is quite a walk from the centre, use a cab if you go there, although me personally, I would concentrate on the area down towards the old town, Cours Saleya etc. Don't miss the view from the top of Castle Hill (Colline du Chateau), it gives you a great view. Access not far from the end of Cours Saleya by walking to the top or use the lift at the bottom(which was free in late August).
Just from what I saw comparative meals on Cours Saleya were approximately 20% dearer than other areas, such as Rue Massena. Place Massena is a great place to relax after sunset. If your there after dark the Sitting statues light up and change color, kind of groovy to see.
As a basic Itinerary, wander from Rue Massena, through Place Massena down toward Cours Saleya. Then venture to the top of Castle Hill for great views. Upon return to the Bottom, wander along the beach before any extra's you might like to see. Alternatively use the site seeing bus to maximise your coverage

pougal, we came on a bus from Menton. If you can get a map of Nice, please see Place Garibaldi. We started walking toward Cathredrale Ste.-Reparate. We ended up at La Feniera but I'm not certain how as we were just strolling-here's the site:

http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...iera_la_nice-i

We then strolled, via the Cathredrale to the Place Saleya and flower market. Lots of places to eat there. Trying to get back to the bus stop, we found a sweet narrow street with art galleries but I don't have its name in my notes. On a previous visit we ate near City Hall-it's very close to Saleya.

Perhaps other Fodorites can give better, more specific info.

If you are an art lover, be sure to visit either the Matisse Museum or the Chagall Museum. Both are wonderful!

The old town in Nice is full of small appealing shops but it's hard to name one - just walk around the narrow streets and windowshop. The Galleries Lafayette branch is not one of their best, but in the streets to the west of GL there are the usual lovely individual French shops like Longchamp, Paraboot, etc.

Lunch or dinner at la Cave de L'Origine. Excellent restaurant feeding the locals. Recommended by shopkeeper Marie Christine who has a fabulous antiques shop if you want to take a real souvenir home!

On another thread, TimS mentioned what I was trying to recall: Fondation Maeght

It's not right in Nice though. Thanks, Tim!
