nice, economical Dublin lodging

I need suggestions for lodging in May 2009. Trinity College does not have rooms available. Would prefer to stay in an safe area with shopping, pretty surroundings and restaurants. Have always stayed near St. Stephens Green before. Most of my knowledge is of that area. We are a group of senior adults who will be using public transportation.

Nice, economical and Dublin do not belong in the same sentence. Could that be why you have not received an answer? The are you want is upscale and expensive. Budget accordingly.

Try Grafton House www.graftonguesthouse.com on South Great George's Street. Will meet your need for safe area with shopping and restaurants. Busy street, so while it won't meet your "pretty surroundings" requirement, it's very centrally located - just a few minutes walk to St. Stephen's Green, Merrion Square, Trinity, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, etc.

Grafton does not have an elevator if this is necessary as you are traveling with other seniors. The 16A bus from the Dublin Airport stops right next to the front door.

You could also try the Jury's Inn...not by St Stephens Green, but walking distance. Its off O'Connell street at Parnell I think.

there are great deals to be had on www.d4hotels.ie which offers a room for eur99 a night (for up to 3 people I think)The hotels are located in the nicest and most upmarket part of Dublin, Ballsbridge. It is only 5 mins to St Stephens green on a bus and they come every few mins. The Dart is also just down the road. Highly recomend it

Hi Paddyboy;

My daughter is currently staying in Dublin at Alpha College, she shares a room, ensuite bathroom, with her friend for 135 euro each a week.

There are single ensuite rooms available also for, I believe, 150 Euro per week. Common kitchen & living area.

She is not a student there, has rented it for 1 month.

It is in a central location and has 24 hrs. security.

The website is www.alphacollege.com

May or may not suit your purposes.

My husband just stayed at the Arlington hotel. He said it was just fine, a single room was 98 euros and a triple was 120 euros. Not sure what a double was. They said it was close walking distance to everything and there's a nice full cook to order Irish breakfast included. They saw the traditional Irish dancing show downstairs and said it was very enjoyable. He said the place was clean and he'd stay there again.

Thanks to everyone who sought to help me with lodging in Dublin. Have decided to stay in Malahide. Those who want to see Dublin can ride the Dart into the city. I have been there several times. I will enjoy different scenery. I would rather stay at The Grand Hotel in Malahide. Thanks for all your help.

paddyboy,
I stayed at The Grand a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. Only problem, our wake-up call didn't come thru on the day we were leaving Ireland. Good thing I had set my travel alarm.

Have a wonderful trip, Joan

The grand is lovely but much pricier than i though you wanted. Also lots of nice pubs and restaurants in the village. Pretty place.

One word of caution - no matter where you book, be sure to ask about the location of a bar inside the hotel and the noise levels. It can be ridiculously loud at some places, so get the highest floor you can and the opposite side of the street...sorry just having flashbacks of the Grafton Capital lol
