Nice/Cannes in November
 

I am thinking about going to Nice for Thanksgiving. I'm told that a lot of things will be closed, but I am wondering whether there will be anything to do for a three day trip at that time of year. Are the museums open, restaurants, etc.? I don't mind if its quiet, but I also don't want to spend all my time in my hotel room.

Any thoughts?

Much of Nice will certainly be open; after all, Thanksgiving isn't a French holiday. Museums will be available, most restaurants and shops will be open, and there is quite a lot to see outdoors. Nice is essentially a year-round destination.

Thanks, Underhill! I appreciate your thoughts. I know that Thanksgiving isn't a holiday in France, but some of the guide books mentioned certain things being closed from mid-November to mid-December.

I have flown to Nice for 3-4 day weekend each of last 2years in end Oct/ beginning of Nov.

Did they tell you things would be closed due to Thanksgiving or due to low tourist season ? I guess the latter since Thanksgiving is an American holiday, isn't it? Still it may be a low season but not holiday season in France so there is no reason things should be closed except some establishments might close due to low season but not all. Nice is a big city. Everything cannot be closed anyway. Still if you are fit enough you can walk a lot visiting those old towns and up to the hill that over look the "Bay of Angel". I really don't think things are closed but in any case museums are open no problem and if that's not enough you might want to take a day trip to Villefrance S.M., Eze or Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat....

We were in Nice the first week of December in 2001, and not much was closed. There wasn't quite the selection of some things in the stores, but that was about the only off-season effect that I saw.

November is still part of the high season.. for restaurant, hotels and museum. Summer 2006 is very hot, and weather will still be great in Nice Cannes until november.

You choose the perfect year to go to France. Not so hot but still very confortable.

I recommend Mougins Village which is close to Cannes for its romantic restaurants far from busy Cannes. And I would recommend Saint Jean Cap Ferrat close to Nice. This is a great peninsula where you can visit the Villa Ephrussi, the Villa Keryos, the Zoo and take a footpath all around this green peninsula. You' ll find very expensive and good hotels and others less expensive but charming hotels.

I don't recommend to stay in downtown Nice, but would rather rent a car and stay in Mougins or in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, or Beaulieu.

??? As I said it is reasonble to consider it as low or at least middle season, perhaps depending on early november or late november, at least according to the hotel rates. Perhaps, JudeD's definition of "high season" is different from that of others.

November is when many people who work in the vacation industry take *their* vacation. They sneak one in between the end of the season (which now goes into October) and the Christmas holidays.

So some popular restaurants and shops will be closed. I'm sure you'll find lots to do during 3 days is Nice -- in fact, more than you will have time to do.
