The Nardizzi used to be one of the hotels Rick Steves recommended for Rome in his travel shows and guide books. I hope your cousin gave you a good deal!

Go to Tripadvisor.com for several reviews. There are a few very negative ones (mostly about service) from fall 2007, although the two most recent postings are very positive. I would assume you'd get great service, so it's probably a good situation for you and your family.

If Rome has a low season, it's August. I would think you could find several bargains at that time.

TA reviews seem to have the same complaint from several reviewers. Perhaps your relatives should take a look before they start losing business.

I would recommend Al Colonnato de San Pietro B&B which is just across a street from the southern edge of St.Peter's Square-we stayed there in October , 2006. It has been extensively reviewed on this & other sites-read them & decide-but if you decide to try them, call ASAP as they tend to book quickly(they do have their own website) Good Luck

Thank you all! We settled on Hotel Julia for Euro 112/day for a quad. My cousin's place was much more and her staff contacted me, she never did! I have to call her at home but we have Hotel Julia confirmed and can cancel a few days before arrival. It's in good location, not far from Termini and Fountain Trevi. Her Hotel Nardizzi Americana is near Hotel Julia and a bit closer to Termini.

Enjoy Hotel Julia. I think it has a better location than your cousin's hotel, and I enjoyed my stay there. That's really an excellent price, even given that it is August.
