WTH is this: "affordable"?

For Warren Buffett, everything is; for only-the-shirt-on-the-back traveler, virtually nothing is.

Ask a question that contains a per night budget in $.

What is this: "nice"? Pleasant, clean, quaint, charming, chain, unremarkable but unobjectionable, utilitarian, other?

Another new OP undoubtedly enthralled by the kindness of a stranger.

I haven't stayed here myself but a well traveled friend once recommended Antiq Hotel Looks to be about $150/ night in June.

It is fairly highly rated on Tripadvisor

We loved this place...perfect location...nice hosts...nice rooms.....from my trip report:

"Ljubljana is not an inexpensive town, and I found the B&B Slamič quite by accident while online. It had its own, gated parking, and we were then lead upstairs to a doorway that opened on to a foyer with two separate, lovely rooms that had hardwood floors and both were nicely decorated. Downstairs was a café dispensing coffee, pastries and cocktails, and one story above was a lovely breakfast room and outside patio. This was one of, if not the, nicest places we stayed during our four weeks."

There are 4 'boutique' type hotels in the old town, all of which are on the same square (Gornji trg) and all of which coincidentally begin with the letter A. In order from cheapest to most expensive they are: Adora, Antiq, Allegro and Angel.

There is also a new 'design' hotel in the old town called Vander Urbani Resort, which is quite amazing if you can afford it (a small infinity pool on the roof with views of the castle almost directly overhead is one of the many perks).

Better values for you may be one of the old town apartments, which run from around €70-110 per night, but are all large and well-furnished. Kollmann, Rooms Kavarna Maček and Meščanka are all recommended, and all literally within 50m of each other. The old town in LJ is tiny!

Cheaper option that are in technically in the old town, but just not the really nice old old town situated at the base of the castle are: Hotel Emonec, Hotel Centre, Pri Mraku and Stari Tišler. The latter is probably the best value as it has just been renovated, and has a great cheap restaurant downstairs.

For any of these, but especially the apartments, the sooner you book the better, as virtually everything will be sold out come July and August (and even Sept this year because of EuroBasket).

You can always of course find plenty more info and download free digital versions of our guides on our site at

We're hoping to be in Ljublijana this coming September (mid-to-late-September) and are interested in knowing if there are any other accomodations in town to add to this list of great deals.

If anyone has any new Ljublijana "gems" to share accomodation-wise, please post here. Thanks!
