NH Doelen in Amsterdam - cafes and restaurants in neighborhood?

My first trip to Amsterdam is coming up soon. I've seen a fairly good rate at the Doelen, which has gotten good reviews on this board and others. I'd like to avoid the 14-Euro breakfast, so what's the neighborhood like for cafes and places to eat in the morning or in general?
Any comments on the Doelen for service, atmosphere, desirable rooms/floors are welcome too.
Thank you!

Mikele,

You can find all sorts of corner cafes that serve all sorts of food for all sorts of people in all price ranges. The 14 Euro might not be a bad bet, considering this will probably be a full breakfast with just about everything you can imagine to eat. Bon Appetite.

Sorry, mikele, I don't know where the Doelen is, but there are bakeries all over Dutch cities & towns; most open by 8am and some even have coffee. I agree that 14 euro is far too much for breakfast unless you're going to skip lunch!
