Newly decorated RER C trains, Paris

I'm sorry if this has been written about before, but what an interesting concept!!

They have been running since May.

and no signs of graffiti anywhere I hope.

annhig Sep 10th, 2012 07:52 AM

yes, kerouac did a piece about it I think but it's well worth mentioning again.

other pics I saw showed a notice on the outside of the carriages which said something like "remember to take a photo else the folk at home won't believe it".

kerouac Sep 10th, 2012 11:57 AM

Annhig, I must confess that I do not think that I am the person who wrote about the train decoration, mostly because I thought the idea was silly.

annhig Sep 10th, 2012 01:28 PM

sorry, kerouac, i thought that it was you.

why silly?

Aduchamp1 Sep 10th, 2012 01:36 PM

While they are interesting, the pictures indicate the aisle is still extremely narrow and there are no overheads for bags. So it may be nice as a commuter line but it still doesn't improve the service from CDG for travelers. Maybe somebody will be fooled by the trompe l'oeil bookcases and think they could put something in there.

kerouac Sep 10th, 2012 02:10 PM

Silly simply because decorating a modern commuter train does not improve its quality, which is what most users would prefer.

annhig Sep 10th, 2012 02:12 PM

I was sure that I'd posted a reply to adu - something about even British Rail providing luggage racks. oh well.

ANN

This May, we took the train from London to York and then York to Edinburgh, a most pleasant experience.

annhig Sep 12th, 2012 07:46 AM

Adu - the main-line trains you would have caught from London to York and York to Edinburgh are NOT the same as the commuter trains I used to catch to get into London from rural Kent and Surrey. not exactly cattle trucks but certainly not comfortable or spacious.

but we did have overhead luggage racks.

Aduchamp1 Sep 12th, 2012 07:59 AM

Understood.

But we also took the train from Edinburgh to Falkirk which doubles as a commuter line and that too was comfortable.

I was surprised when I took the RER from CDG to Paris, how little consideration was given to anyone with luggage. It seems as if was a misshapen marketing ploy-secondary revenue producing comcept rather than a decent means of tourist transportation, unworthy of a world capitol.

not sure I completely agree with you but that's one h..l of a sentence!

Thanks and I hate Henry James.

Perhaps some people have excess luggage.
