Newgrange Shuttle Bus
My daughter and I will be visiting Dublin this coming February and we are interested in visiting Newgrange. We will not have car. I have been reading about a "Newgrange Shuttle" but I cannot find a schedule for this or any information about it. Can someone help me find information? I would like to know the schedule of the shuttle and just where leaves from and whether it drops us off at Newgrange or if we need more transportation from the drop off spot. Thanks! Susan

I think the reference to the Newgrange Shuttle is the bus service round the various sites. You go to the main entrance of the central exhibition, decide which of the sites you want to go to and are allocated times of services to those sites. You then cross a footbridge to a little bus station where the services leave from, take you to the site chosen and then back to the bus station at a set time. There is no other way into the sites, only by means of the shuttle buses. (There may be special arrangements for disabled access.)
But how you get to the central exhibition by public transport I'm afraid I do not know. |
wasleys- the Newgrange Shuttle that I am refering to leaves from Dublin, the visitors center on Suffolk Street. But I cannot find a schedule for the bus nor can I find where it drops us off in Newgrange. Susan

After posting I did a quick Google and found what you refer to try: http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/beyon...12_prog6.shtml |
Susan, These are the various tours of Newgrange:
http://www.irishcitytours.com/daytours_newgrange.htm http://www.newgrangetours.com/ https://www.buseireann.ie/asp/TourDe...;SEASON_ID=126 wasleys is correct about the Newgrange Shuttle. |
I was hoping to only spend half a day for this visit to Newgrange. We are only going to be in Dublin for a long weekend. It looks like the Newgrange tours are all full day affairs; that is why I was hoping to find transportation there, but not a tour. Susan

The shuttle bus is how you get to the momuments as there is no direct access. This leaves from the Newgrange visitor center. If you are not driving and not doing a specific tour then you can get a bus from Dublin (Busaras, the main bus station) to Drogheda, then another bus from Drogheda to Donore, where Newgrange is. It's about an hour and a half journey. Alternatively you can get a train from Dublin (connolly station) to Drogheda and again a bus to Donore. For prices and timetables, check www.buseireann.ie or www.irishrail.ie.

I have your answer! I know exactly what you are looking for, and I also know that it's surprisingly difficult to find this information. But, I took the shuttle bus myself. I was the only one on the bus as there was a downpour! The driver was very nice. I would e-mail the company to make sure the times listed below are correct.
From http://www.knowth.com/tours.htm: "Dublin/Newgrange Shuttlebus - Departs daily from Suffolk Street (near the Dublin Tourism Office) at 8:45am and 11am, departs O'Connell Street (the Garda Station) at 9am and 11:15am. On the return journey departs Newgrange at 1pm and 4pm. Tickets can be purchased on board or at the Dublin Tourism office in Suffolk street. Phone 1800 424252 or email [email protected]" |
