New York to Rome thru Dublin
 

Hi All,
First solo trip coming up this summer and I'd like to be as prepared as I possibly can to calm my nerves! With Ireland being in the EU but not participating in the Schengen Agreement I am unsure if it will effect the flow of my travel with an approximate 2hr layover. I'm traveling from New York to Rome via Aer Lingus with a stop in Dublin, will I need to show my passport and get stamped in Dublin or just at my final destination when I reach Rome? Thank you in advance for your time and expertise!

At Dublin I believe you will stay airside - just transiting from one plane to another - and not go through Immigration or getting your bags/going through customs until you get to Rome.

Is this all on one Aer Lingus ticket (JFK/DUB/FCO)?

I've taken that flight - or the exact one from Boston - numerous times and I'm booked on it again in both March and July. Very easy. Going over I honestly can't even remember if you go through passport control but even if you do it's no big deal, just follow the rest of the people on the plane. Going over it's usually very early in the morning and Dublin airport is empty - there are a few places to get breakfast and then it's time to board the Italy flight. Coming back it's actually easier than flying from Rome straight to the US. You go through passport control in Rome but it's faster and easier than for the flights to the US (cause you are just going to another European country). Then in Dublin there is "US Prescreening" which means you go through passport control for the US while still in the Dublin Airport and when you get to the US you don't have to. Saves a lot of time.
