New York to Pensione La Calcina, Venice
Pensione La Calcina is one of my favorite hotels in Venice, and is one of the all-time favorite hotels of a large number of foreigners visiting Venice.
La Calcina is also one of the easiest hotels to get to from New York City. Here's how:
1. Take Delta Airline's nonstop flight 144 from JFK to VCE, daily in summer and several times per week in winter. Currently, the flight gets into Venice at 9:25 a.m.
2. After clearing immigration control and customs, take the shuttle bus to the nearby landing dock of the Alilaguna water bus.
3. The Alilaguna water bus departs at ten past the hour and takes 80 minutes to reach the Zattere landing. One way fare is 10 Euros, but a water taxi will charge at least 90 Euros. Plan on taking the boat departing at 11:10. www.alilaguna.it
4. Around 12:30, you'll get off the boat at the Zattere landing, across from the Church of the Gesuati in Dorsoduro. The Pensione is 150 yards to your right. It takes 90 seconds to walk there, and it's totally flat, no bridges to cross.
There you are!

GAC - I am also a big fan of La Calcina and will be staying there in February with my Mother who is also partial to this place. And I've known about the Aliguna option for some time as friends in Venice who live near La Calcina swear by it. Thanks for sharing this type of information for other folks on this board! However, since I finally managed to navigate trenitalia.com I will be coming into Venice by train and won't be using Aliguna this time round.
