New Year's in Vienna - where to go, where to stay, what to eat - HELP!

Jump to last reply

We are visiting Prague 22 - 30 December (looking after somebody's home). I am considering going to Wien afterwards for 3 or 4 days - maybe until 2 January. I am not much into the party / drinking culture, prefer slow travel, music, art, history. I would appreciate advice from more seasoned travellers: what to do in Vienna during these few days? Yes, I did research the websites - I do know about the main tourist stuff like Shonebrunnen. I just wonder if there are other, less obvious places that you love to visit ;)
Would also really appreciate recommendations of where to stay - what part of the city, as well as (hopefully) recommendations for a nice hotel of guesthouse for two people on a fairly tight budget!
Lastly: if you have a favourite restaurant, please tell me!
