New Year's in London-How will we get back to the hotel?

Our family of 5 (3 teens ages 12-16)will be spending the early part of New Year's Eve seeing Mama Mia. Afterwards we'd like to go to the Trocadero to contrast the previous week of cultural visits to museums and monuments. Will the Tube extend hours? Could we ever find a taxi for 5? We could stay out until 2 a.m. for so and try for a night bus but need to know if we'll be able to make it back to our hotel in Bayswater. Is it possible to arrange for a taxi in advance? Thanks for any suggestions.

Taxis are tough to find and the tube is really crowded on New Year's Eve. Assuming you are all healthy I would walk. You could walk up Regent St from Piccadilly Circus (Trocadero) to Oxford street which is an extension of Bayswater Road - it is really a straight shot. I'd guess it is about 1 mile in total -- .5 miles the length of Regent st and about 3/4 mi. Oxford st/Bayswater. Walking would be my choice - I'd never go on the tube on New Years eve and private drivers charge a huge premium for that night.

Thanks Janis. Anyone else out there have
a suggestion? We are all healthy and as
long as it's a safe area could walk home.

Don't worry about the safety - except for the normal caution requirde in any crowded city this is a very safe area. And crowds will be out everywhere so you will have a LOT of company.
