Why not Andulucia in Spain?

Fantastic celebrations ( nobody celebrates like the Spanish!! check out my blog archives or podcasts for a look at our village last year), sunny weather, beach and skiing available all in the same day if you want, friendliest people, exotic, romantic, Moorish delights, flamenco and tapas.

Who could ask for anything more? ;)

For New Years (Hogmanay) you can't beat Edinburgh. But bookings must be made asap.

Christmas is not as huge a holiday as elsewhere though. For Christmas & New Years in the same city I might choose Paris or Vienna.

But honestly - New Years in Edinburgh is more fun than you can imagine.

i'm still studying my options, it seems that i am going for new year's only, so any new ideas would be more than welcome...
thanks in advance

Definitely Scotland, home of New Year.

Edinburgh's a party, but you can have fun anywhere.

London would be my choice.

Vienna is wunderbar at this time of year. The Christmas markets all over the city are fantastic and the whole city is one mass celebration during New Year's.

For New Year there is only one place to go and that is Edinburgh for Hogmanay (sp?) For New Year the city turns into one massive party and it is brilliant.

Dude, if you're speaking aboutTHIS New Year's, good luck! I started planning my trip to Germany, Czech Rep, Hungary and Austria back in early September and finding a place ANYWHERE on New Year's Eve is nigh onto impossible. I've never seen accomodations so booked-up in the Tyrol and Bavaria and we visit that area quite frequently during the holidays. Of course, we are on a budget and try to keep room costs below $150 per night, but in places like Garmisch, Innsbruck, Vienna, Prague and Budapest, there's nothing.

I can't speak for far western Europe, but the partgoers of the central part seems to be prepared to welcome 2008 with a bang.
