New Years Eve - London or Paris?

I have never traveled to Europe, With my girl friend, I plan on spending Christmas and New Years in either London or Paris but can't decided which one. Which will have the larger public celibration of New Years? London seems easier, no language problems, but Paris seems more romantic? Any compelling reason for one over the other is appriciated. Hotel recomendations appriciated also.

We've spent New Years Eve in both places, and both have their attractions and charm. I vote for Paris, where we'll be again this year, but with the caution that it's been almost impossible to get a hotel room.

Neither! At least for this year, stay home!!! My Paris friend told me that last year was absolutely CRAZY in Paris and this year will be so much crazier. She is staying home!

We go every year to one and the following year to the other and stay for both Christmas and New Years. It's a tough decision for a first timer. But you can't go wrong since both are magnicent cities to be in. You might want to check with the British Tourist Office in New York which is publishing for the asking a guide to what is going on in London this year. I believe the guide comes out after October 31.

To Lu B --

I don't know where your Paris friend went last New Years Eve, but I was in Paris then, and while I had a wonderful time it was much more tranquil than anywhere in the States where I've spent that holiday.

We were at a nightclub in the 5th, also around Ile St Louis, Beaubourg, and the Marais, and while everyone was very friendly, it was hardly crazy.
