New Year in Lisbon, Portugal

I am planning to be in Portugal from Dec 27th to Jan 3rd. Should I spend all my time in Lisbon or any other recommendation? Is December the worst time to go to Lisbon? I was in Paris last year for NY and it was not so bad with a heavy jacket.

We had a fabulous time in Lisbon over NYE in 2010/2011. We had decent weather and really loved it.

Our trip report with pictures here http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...l-20102011.cfm

We spent 5 nights in Lisbon and 2 in Sintra.

Thanks for the link to your trip Jamikins. I am enjoying reading it. Do you recommend staying overnight in Sintra or making Lisbon as the home base and take train to explore Sintra?

Thanks,
M

With a week I am glad we did 2 nights in Sintra and 5 in Lisbon but you could easily do Sintra as a long day trip.

Enjoy!

Hey everyone! I have spent a couple of months in Lisbon including the december-january period, and the weather was great, I loved it!!
I think Sintra is beautiful as well, you should definetly check it out. I was situated in Lisbon and did a sintra tour which was all day long and it was enough for me, but must be great to spend there more time as well.
I think if you go to Lisbon you need to see the coast, for example Cascais or Caparica. it is amaizng!

The distance from Lisbon to Sintra is around 20km (From the Lisbon's limits). Of course from the Airport or some other area the distance increases a little.

You could take the highway or some suburban train lines that goes from one place to another. Most train stations in Lisbon have an option to Sintra.

To answer better you should be more specific.

Thanks man! What do you think I should visit there? I saw pictures from the castle, that is amaizing. But any other suggestions? P.

Hey PMelo, I think the best is to go with an organized tour to sintra, because the castle (pena) is a bit far. I was with the guys from www.lisbonhost.com and i enjoyed it a lot.

No reason to take a tour to Sintra, public transport is frequent and easy and sure to be cheaper.
