Ah, the ironies of history. Germans apprehensive of the invading Poles, of all people!

Good grief.. I thought it had been made clear that

a) there had been reports on Austrian television regarding people "panicing" in Austria, and

b) that the IHT article on German angst re. a Polish "invasion" was without justification. I have not read anything "scary" on German newspapers or see it on TV here.

USNR - I caught that irony too ;)

That's like all of the EU opinion polls that consistently show that the EU country to which the French feel the most things in common is Germany, and vice versa.

The closer you are, the more likely you want to kill eachother. :D
Just like in every good old family or marriage. It all dates back to Charlemange. ;-)

<<rich people are afraid of, when not protected from the poor..., crime etc. Ukrainian, gangs especially>>

It's too late to worry about that, Joshka Fischer already let them in back then.

I was stopped in Berlin train station last winter for a passport ID check by German police.

And why the heck is Britain and Ireland not in this accord - are they better than others they think in border screening?

Why don't they just drop out of Europe all together - redolent of apochryphal headline i think:

"Fog Shuts Channel Ferries
Continent Isolated"

Ah that British superiority still reigns i guess.
