New netbook for $219

Tiger Direct is doing a sale on the Asus Eeee Netbook for $219. You have to use this coupon code to get the addition $20 discount...

Here is the link, in case anyone is looking for a pretty darn good deal on a 160 gb HD netbook.

Of course these all get cheap after I bought mine last year.

Dave
I bought mine last year too. I would like to ask you your opinion only about Tiger Direct. Do you order from them often.
I now have a Garmin gps and I am looking to replace it. They have a good price for what I am looking to buy.
Thanks.

I've ordered from TigerDirect about a dozen times over the years and never had a problem. They have great deals and good everyday prices and I usually check them against buy.com and other retailers when I buy computer hardware.

I think they have a B&M store near Raleigh NC. Every time I'm in Raleigh, I've been meaning to take a look, but never got a chance to go.

Very old technology though, and with XP too, and lousy battery life. Maybe not such a bargain.

I'd spend another $100 on a more modern one myself - with 10-12 hours battery life and W7 starter. Amazon have the Eee Seashell 1005PE for $295.

Sher,

I've bought multiple items from Tiger Direct's Canadian site over the years... never a problem. American friends have had good dealings with them in the US.

Last month I bought an Acer Aspire One at Target for $200. It was a one-week special, reduced from $260. Easy set-up, works well. Highly rated on Consumers Reports.

I love my Acer Aspire and did see one at Target a week later for $60 less on sale.

With a Netbook, there are some very good reasons to go with Windows XP versus Windows Starter, especially if you have PC Programs for XP that won't run on Windows 7 without upgrading (or won't run at all).

I tried Windows 7 for about a month on a new laptop earlier this year. While it is an improvement over Vista for sure, I still found certain things about Windows 7 annoying and eventually went back to XP (and more recently, to Ubuntu Linux). However, I was surprised while using Windows 7 how many of my old XP programs worked fine - I was expecting more of them not to work.
