New Martin Sheen Movie "The Way" ; filmed along the Camino de Santiago!
Emilio Estevez wrote and directed his father on the movie "The Way". Great storyline, cinematically beautiful, touching, amazing film!! You may be able to recognize many places along the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. Check the trailer:

I'd love to see this. Maybe I can rent it at some time in the future.
|
It opens Oct 7th USA- nationwide. I already got advanced tickets- AMC Loews Theatres on 570 Second Ave, New York! So excited!!
|
Niiiice. We are planning to walk part of the Camino de Frances for my 40th birthday (not for a couple years, but I like to plan ahead).
|
Wow. this movie came out here last winter. I enjoyed it. If you have walked for days and days, you will appreciate the "relationship".. the "distance but camaraderie" between the participants.
I did not know who he was at the time, but I walked a bit of the camino with Jack Hitt (the author of the book that inspired this movie, I believe they say) and one of his daughters, and later sat at a café with the family until I moved on. http://main.uab.edu/Sites/MediaRelat...rticles/73881/ We had crossed paths for several days, then one day he and his daughter happened to stop where i was stopped, we exchanged the typical inquiries and kept moving together for a mile or so. Just talking about the camino makes me want to get up there again. |
Looking forward to seeing this movie!!!
|
Viajero2, thanks for the heads-up. Can't wait to see the film.
|
I know that people in many different parts of the world have already seen this movie, but as viajero says, here in the US, it has not yet opened. Right now, there's a bus tour going on, and depending on where you live, you might be able to get a sneak peak. http://theway-themovie.com/bustour/
I know many people who have walked many caminos who have seen this movie, and I haven't yet heard a really negative comment, so I am looking forward to it as well. I've been told, though, that if you've walked the Camino Frances, you will have lots of little quibbles with details, and will probably annoy your neighbors if you are unable to suppress them! |
We happened to be in Santiago when they were shooting some scenes in the plaza, bagpipes and all. In the meantime, Martin was in Pamplona doing interviews after following the Camino down from Roncesvalles.
|
The buzz/word of mouth on this movie is amazing! The reviews are fantastic! Can't wait! For what I hear it truly captured elements of the Camino and Spain very well. Martin Sheen's ancestry is part from Galicia so I am sure Emilio Estevez was under a lot of pressure to represent those correctly :-D

Viajero, thank you for the good news that its opening in the US soon! I kept looking for it to no avail. If they don't show it in NJ, I'll go to NYC for sure.
|
Viajero,
How did you find out about the theatre in NYC? I went to the website and don't find any link or list detailing what theatres in the US will show it. |
Hi cruiseluv,
According to the bus tour link that I posted a few days ago, it's going to be in NYC on Oct. 4-7. You have to go to the map on the right side of the page and click on the little blue marker that's over NYC. There is also information about showings on their facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/thewaythemovie and I know several people who have won free tickets to a showing by checking back frequently on that page. One way or another, I am going to see this movie! |
p.s. I see that if you go to the AMC theater's website, http://www.fandango.com/amcloewskips...date=10/7/2011 you can also buy advance tickets for the official opening date, which is Oct. 7.
the bus tour tickets are for advance showings. |
We will go since my wife and her sister walked the Camino and we have many cousins who live outside of Santiago.
Looking forward to it. |
Thank you Lauri for the info!

The Movie Tour is in Chicago right now. He may be able to catch an advanced screening.
I am also walking a section next year- Pamplona-Burgos. This time I am bringing a group. I walked The Camino this past May-June and it was one of the the best experiences of my life! |
looks like a good movie. My husband I would like to travel part of the Camino some time in the next few years. We enjoyed the Jack Hitt book (Off the Road)
