New Juno Beach Centre in Normandy--Information needed
Will be in France in a week and are REALLY trying to find information on the new Juno Beach Centre. Because it is so new, the web-page is under construction. Even the person who answered the phone couldn't give me the hours of operation because it is a phone number for the administration offices in Ottawa!!! As a Canadian, it is really important that we vist this particular memorial but can't find any information. If anyone can help out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is what I would like to know: Hours of operation (are there days that it is closed?) Are there tours to the landing beaches from there? If yes, How often do these tours leave? Thanks! |
I just looked at the website. You're right, the Contact Us page is under construction. Hmmm. The rest of the site is up and running (and a very interesting site, too!), so one would think they'd have the contact info up ASAP! Oh well....
One thing I did see on the Juno Beach Centre site is the Getting There page. It has the contact info for two Canadian tour services. One is called The Maple Leaf Forever, and one is called Verstraete Travel. You might contact them for info about the Juno Beach Centre RE: opening times, etc. |
I also did a search on Google, and found this page:
http://www.premier.gov.on.ca/english...each060603.asp It tells of the Premier's trip to the grand opening of the Juno Beach Centre, and at the bottom of the article, it says this: For more information: Premier?s Media Office 416-325-7600 Might be worth a shot to call them and see if they can help you with contact info. |
If the Premier's office can't help you might want to call the office of Roy Norton who is the Ontario Gov't Chief of Protocol . His office usually plans the Premier's trips and would be able to offer you contacts etc.416 325 8545

At junobeach.org, under Getting There - Reservations the hours of operation beginning June 2003 are daily 0900 to 1900; from October 2003 through March, 2004, 1000 - 1300, 1400 to 1800, except closed in January.
The only tours I see mentioned are for the centre itself, and reservations seem to be required only for groups. The centre as far as I can tell is almost on top of Juno Beach itself. As for the other landing beaches, there are tours of these offered by several outfits not connected with the Juno Beach centre. Since information about these tours changes so rapidly, you are best off doing a 'google' search for the latest information from the companies. My guess is that with so many people interested in this new centre, you could probably arrange for pickup from there. Good luck, and do let us know what you think of the centre. |
Ding ding! Once I got to the Getting There page, I didn't think to look on the Reservations page for hours. It seems slightly confusing to organize the site that way, but hey, that's just me!

LOL BrimhamRocks, I had trouble too. Ideally they need to tweak the site and put opening hour information up front and centre, because otherwise they are going to be inundated with calls!
|
I agree! Hopefully orangeboy will be able to get the info he needs.
When my hubby and I were stationed in Belgium, we went to Bastogne, and explored the Battle of the Bulge museum there. It was very poignant. Sounds like the Juno Beach Centre is an equally interesting place. |
Not to make lightly of the topic, but I fight the Battle of the Bulge every day, and I hope someday, someone will make a monument for me! (she said, as she ate another slice of carrot cake) LOL...
Have a great day, everyone. |
Hey, thanks for trying guys! Sue, you were able to find the hours of operation on the web-page which is more than I could do!! Sometimes in France, museums will be closed one day (ie. Monday or Tuesday) and my main concern is finding out if they were going to do that @ Juno Beach Centre. It looks like it is open daily...so that is good. When I return, I will be sure to post the info here.
