"Federal government" is just bad English for "central government" But at least it's clear what it means

We used to get six for just getting our perfect participles not agreeing.

These people are just too stupid to learn basic English. So get someone who can - or give up and publish just in French.

Half a century ago, bad translations were funny. Now they're just offensive.

At least it demonstrates how fatheaded all that crap is that English lefties churn out about France's wonderful educational system. If I'd written French that disgracefully at school, I'd have been flogged.

Most of it won't affect visitors to France, except possibly the ban on headsets and earphones for mobile phones. In car Bluetooth hands free is still allowed.

It doesn't sound like anyone tried to translate anything - more like someone ran it through "google translate." And then did not proofread the results.

I agree about the translation, but it is the only news I could find in English.
There are drink driving changes for those with little driving experience, plus new rules for parking near pedestrian crossings. Also new speed cameras which will work in 2 discretions. Councils will now be able to zone areas with lower speed limits than that set by the national rules.
Moving on to hands free phones.

The only rule I can see not affecting any tourist is the ban on the use of tinted windows on cars. Hopefully hire cars will be within the law.

The original link in French says that voice controlled hands free systems, such as the ones built in to many cars will still be allowed, if I read it correctly.

The translation came from a "news service" in Romania. Must have the operation set up in someone's bedroom. It certainly isn't professional, but . The French version is nothing like it.

Banning tinted windows won't make much difference. As for letting 15 year olds drive, well that should save a few lives. Not.

Enforcing speed limits, educating drivers on how to behave around other road users, enforcing drink driving limits, really enforcing them, not just insisting everyone carries a breathalyser. That's what will save lives.
Probably a stricter driving test too, given how many French drive, and park.

They are behind the times if they are just doing that, they've been banned everywhere I've lived in the US for a long time (tinted windows). As well as using cellphones that require hands.

I just scanned it, don't see the things about tinted windows but it must be on the link that lists all 26. Those 3 the article says are the most important wouldn't affect most tourists, like not being able to park less than 5 meters from a crosswalk.

I will be ok then as I have a Parrot system fitted to my car. Never understood why fitting any other sort of hands free kit is considered hands free. Thanks for the clarification.

The Local online paper is like using the Daily Mail UK newspaper. It is so alarmist, blowing things out of proportion all of the time. There have various versions covering different European Counties. If that had been the only information I would never have posted anything.

ribeira, thanks for raising the issue though, I'll be driving through France this year in my own car and stuff like this helps, even if the translation was poor.
