New Departure Location of Intercity Buses from Florence to Lucca/Viareggio

Jump to last reply

The departure location of the intercity buses from Florence to both Lucca and Viareggio has very recently changed: no longer from Piazza Adua (across the wide street from the SMN train station), but from nearby Via Nazionale/Via Fiume. Here are directions to walk there from the station:

1. Exit the SMN train station on the side of the McDonald's restaurant and the Pharmacy (walk LEFT after reaching the head of the train track after alighting from the arriving train);

2. Look to your RIGHT and locate the large McDonald's restaurant across the wide double street (this is a different McDonald's from the one inside the station). Cross the street and walk to this location.

3. Make a LEFT turn at the street corner (without crossing over) and continue for another 25 meters until you reach the "CAP Biglietteria", where you buy the bus ticket.

4. Ask the ticket agent for the departure bay of the Lucca (or Viareggio) bound bus. As of Memorial Day, it was bus bay 1 on Via Fiume (around the corner from the ticket office, without crossing the street).

Schedules:

(see Quadro 01; note that Lucca-bound buses do not run on Sundays)

NOTE: The departure location may change once again in the near future, as the immediate area around the SMN Station is extremely congested, and there are plans to move more intercity bus departures to locations further afield of the station.
