I don't think Paris is very attractive - - simply too much grey monotony from street to street with virtually nothing to redeem it except the bistros.
|
I would agree with Paris. Not that there was anything wrong with it, we simply found it very underwhelming after all of the over-the-moon comments that we'd heard and read about the city.

Rome.
Dirty and everything is in pieces. (Insert sarcasm) Unfriendly locals. Lots of gypsies and pickpocketing. Overrated. |
Gravesend, England. Brought my boat over from Holland to Gravesend to pick up some gear stored there. I had come up the French canals from the Med about a month before to Amsterdam, and had docked across from Central Station. Within a week of tieing up I had made friends that I have to this day, despite not knowing a word of Dutch. People in pubs were genuinely open, welcoming, and friendly. In Gravesend I spent a very lonely two weeks while I visited local pubs for company. The barmen and customers were universally surly, cold and uptight. I couldn't even make an acquaintance, much like a friend. And I do speak English.

I know it's not europe, but I really hated bangkok. Never going back.

I read through the whole thread and have decided I'm staying home. Oh, wait, my city was cited by someone here.

no-one mentioned mine! sanne - i love Rome, dirt, graffitti and all. you not going there will leave more space for me. |
I will never go back to the city annhig lives in.

I looked at the thread again and became even more convicted those posters who declared some of my favorite
cities dirty and full of graffiti have probably stayed in a completely different parts of the city than we did. |
shame, vincenzo - I'm sure you'd love it.
Lots of flowers, good food, nice friendly people, and no graffiti. |
I hate flowers. I'm fasting. I'm a misanthrope. I'm a graffiti artist.

I remember the first time I came to New York City. My thought was … who would evrer want to live here.
50 years later I"ll have to be dragged out by my heels -:) |
Grandma,
I felt the same way the first time in NY...stayed in a lousy hotel in Time Square for three days It was 100 degrees( August!)... the impression was of a dirty , crowded city , horrible airless subway and fast food restaurants on every corner.. Luckily , I came back many times since and discovered a very different and great city. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling some posters have had a similar experience in other big cities and (unfortunately) will never go back. |
