Neuschwanstein Castle

I have found several photos of this castle but I cannot figure out where it is. I will be in Munich. Is it near or in Munich? Can I get to it by train? Please help me with information about how to visit or information on a website that will explain how to get there and how to buy tickets.

Thank you

Take a train to Füssen. Walk or take a local bus. www.hohenschwangau.de

I booked a tour thru my hotel when I arrived in Munich. I think it was about $50. I'm not normally a fan of packaged tours, but in this case it was worth it for me--I didn't have to figure out how to get there by train, then figure out how to catch the connecting bus, etc. I also did not have to do all the research on the castle or Ludwig. And, I could sleep on the way back without worrying about missing my stop!

Thank you. I found the information of the suggested website for the ticket prices and opening times. Where can I look to find out the times/schedules/prices for train tickets from Munich to Fussen?

Go to www.bahn.de, click on Int. Guests. Type in Muenchen Hbf and Fuessen Bahnhof. There is a new timetable from this Sunday Dec 15. Departures almost every hour from 6.51, arrives Füssen 2 hours 6 minutes later. Mostly with a change in Buchloe.

Standard ticket is 18.20 euro each way, but there are some very good discounted tickets. Read about the Bayern/Bavaria ticket on http://www.bahn.de/pv/int_guest/offe...ickets.shtml#3 and the Schönes Wochenende/Happy weekend ticket on http://www.bahn.de/pv/int_guest/offe...tional.shtml#1

We climbed the hill to get to the Castle. Only after reaching the castle, did I find out you can take a carriage ride! Would of been so much easier. Also, climbed the hill behind the castle to the Queen's bridge. It was worth it! A great view and one that stays with you for a lifetime.

Don´t miss the view from the bridge! Marienbrücke (Mary´s bridge). Less than ten minutes walk, if I remember correct. Much more important than the (rather disappointing) interior of the castle.

Lost - the castle is just located just outside Fussen Germany. Go to www.bahn.de to get train schedules from Munich to Fussen. You can also sign up for day tours from Munich at the main train station. I agree, though worth a tour, the interior is relatively modern, representing the excentricites of Ludwig. I found Hohenschwangau, just down the hill much more appealing. Linderhof, is a much better example of Ludwigs excentricities than Neuschwanstein and well worth a visit.
