Neuchswanstein...should I order advance tickets for a Sept. Sat?
As it happens we will be visiting the castles on a Saturday during September. (24th to be exact) I wasn't planning on purchasing advance tickets but will reconsider if it's recommended because I'll be there Saturday. We are planning on visiting 1st thing and will be driving from
the Garmisch area. Thanks.

I didn't know they sold advance tickets. Maybe things have changed. I have been there twice, once in the '70's and once in the '90's, both in summertime (when it's probably the busiest) and I don't recall any kind of a wait -- if there was one, it couldn't have been that long.
The only thing I do remember is that it is a bit of a hike up to the castle itself, so the last time there (due to small kid with us) we took one of those horse and carriages to the top, then later walked back down to the car park/bus stop.

Yes,make a reservation! NOW! They have a web site you can order from. Just google it. Sometimes the lines are very long.
We walked up to the castle reather than take the carriage ride. It was magnificent, but it is a hard hike.
Have fun.

We were at the castle 2 years ago about the same time in Sept. We were there late morning and the wait was no more than 30 min. They seemed to move the line along pretty quickly. Personally, I wouldn't worry about advance tickets. We also enjoyed the horse drawn carriage ride to the top. Don't miss the other castle, Hohenschwangau, nearby. Have a great trip!
