Netherlands Museum Card question
While investigating the Amsterdam Card, I found out about the Netherlands Museum Card. It seems to be a much better deal compared to the Amsterdam Card.
Netherlands Museum Card: €25 for 1 year Amsterdam Card: € 51 for 3 days I know the Amsterdam Card also includes free public transportation and canal rides, but since I'll be visiting museums in Den Haag and Rotterdam, it seems like the Netherlands Card will work out better for me. Has anyone used the Netherlands Card? Will I be able to buy it at the Rijksmuseum? The website is in Dutch only. http://www.museumkaart.nl |
I looked at the website. The Museumkaart is indeed 25 euro (or 12.50 euro for -25 yr olds) for one year + 4.95 euro administration fee, it can be bought at Rijksmuseum.
It's just for the museums, though. No transport included, no other attractions included. |
I used the Netherlands year-card and got my money's worh in just one week. Bought it at Rijksmuseum (obviously it was my first stop) and used it at Mauritshuis and in Haarlem as well as at the obvious A'dam sites.
Warning: it requires a photo, so if you don't have extra passport photos, make xeroxes of your passport so you'll have a picture to affix to the pass. (This was the rule several years ago.) |
Thanks Myriam! I think it gives me a better deal than the Amsterdam Card. I assume the Netherlands card is not restricted to Dutch only, right?
kayd - thanks for the tip! I'll bring a passport-size photo along. |
yk, don't know about an eventual restriction to Dutch only. I emailed them your question and will revert.
As for the photo, as far as I can see on the webite it's a credit card type card with a magnetic tape on the back. |
Myriam - thanks so much for your help.

I already got their reply!
The Museumkaart is for everyone. For an online order you need a Dutch bank account but can can buy the card in the museums printed in italics on the attachment that came with their mail (amongst which also the Rijksmuseum). |
Forgot to mention that a photo is no longer necessary.

Thank you again, Myriam!
